Always and forever, Christmas in my heart!

This was the first year that I began to pack up all of our Christmas decorations the day after Christmas. BUT this was also the first year that I've had to fit three firetrucks, two guitars, a drum set, a dance floor, a horse, and a ball pit in my living room. Usually I wait 'til the beginning of the new year, when I'm beyond depressed that the holidays are over, but I couldn't wait... The Christmas tree was taking up precious floor space. It seems like just yesterday I was making Shaun climb into the attic to fetch our decorations and now they're sitting in boxes and bins waiting for him to get home so he can lug them back up there. As I was packing up all of the lights, Santa Clauses, ornaments, ribbons, and bows, and then began to start on all our nativity scenes, I realized there was one part of Christmas that I didn't want to go away... Baby Jesus! He is not only the true "reason for the season" but also the true reason for every 365 days of the year! I wish the same excitement that I feel at Christmas could last all year. I wish that I could always be this humbled and amazed that God sent His only Son, in the form of a tiny baby boy, to save us. I wish that I could always feel this much joy and peace. I wish that the spirit of giving could always be this easy! I wish it could always be December 25th. Setting aside the shopping, the hustle and bustle, and all the recently added hype of the season, I tried to focus on the real Christmas story and the gift that was born in a manger so long ago. Having my own tiny baby boy (even when he's taller than me he will be my tiny baby boy) gives me a whole new understanding of how Mary felt on the night of the first Christmas. Although, while she knew her son was the Savior of the world, I pray that my son will grow up to know the Savior of the world!

My goal this year is to try and keep Christmas in my heart all year long. If that means I have to pop in Martina McBride's Christmas CD once every month, then so be it! Merry Christmas (don't be surprised if that's one of my titles in April or July)!!!

Mele Kalikimaka

Another Christmas has come and gone for the Higgins Trio (Shaun works tomorrow... and the next day)! It's late and I'm beyond tired so I'll have to give the days events and highlights later! Here are a few pictures from our wonderful Christmas day! I downloaded our Christmas morning pictures on Isaac's site, http://isaachiggins.shutterfly.com/, (you're welcome mom) but still need to add the pictures of Christmas with Shaun's family (I know, they're my family too but that's how I sometimes say it so people know which side of the family I'm referring to).

Isaac's Nativity Scene

Who said there weren't giant sheep, camels, and donkeys, as well as beach cruisers, at the birth of Jesus?

Uncle Aaron brings a ball pit!

Christmas is so different this year with a little guy! It's been a long time since we've been able to shop at Toys R Us! Now that we can, it's hard to stop. Everyone is soooo excited about giving Isaac his presents... So excited that he's getting some of his gifts before Christmas! Uncle Aaron stopped by to pick up my mom (our mom) on his way home to Arizona and let Isaac open his Dolphin Splash Ball Pit! Isaac was in awe the second he saw the balls on the front of the box! He was so thrilled he hopped in before Aaron could finish blowing it up! It was the last place he was before bed time and the first place he went when he woke up!

Happy Birthday Shaun!

Last night we went out to celebrate Shaun's 28th birthday! Spaghetti Factory was yum, yum! We went on the eve of his birthday because little brother Matthew is having knee surgery today (actually, as I'm typing). Poor guy! Feel better soon! It was, like always, a wonderful time spent with family. They even have a little kids section with movies and blocks so the Aunties and Uncle took turns entertaining Isaac! here are a few pictures of the birthday boy!
Isaac was not interested in having his picture taken. This was before we left for dinner...
NOT HAPPY!

At the restaurant before dinner...
NOT LISTENING!!!

Pretty in Pink!

Shaun's family knows just what he likes! ;)

The BIGGEST surprise of the night.... Wii!!!! I'm the one typing but I asked Shaun to tell me what he wanted me to write... Shaun says, " --------." That's all I could get out of him! He's deep into Wii so I think the blah focused look on his face means thank you, thank you, and thank you for ALL the gifts!

Awwww! Finally, a smile! A little goofy but Isaac finally gave in. Probably because EVERYONE was looking at him while he performed his latest trick... Showing us his muscles!

The Reason for the Season

Santa vs. Jesus
*Santa lives at the North Pole... JESUS is everywhere.
*Santa rides in a sleigh... JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.
*Santa comes but once a year... JESUS is an ever present help.
*Santa fills your stockings with goodies... JESUS supplies all your needs.
*You have to wait in line to see Santa... JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.
*Santa lets you sit on his lap... JESUS lets you rest in His arms.
*Santa doesn't know your name, all he can say is "Hi little boy or girl, what's your name?"... JESUS knew our name before we did. Not only does He know our name, He knows our address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our head.
*Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly... JESUS has a heart full of love.
*All Santa can offer is HO HO HO... JESUS offers health, help and hope.
*Santa says "You better not cry"... JESUS says "Cast all your cares on me for I care for you."
*Santa's little helpers make toys... JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions.
*Santa may make you chuckle but...JESUS gives you a joy that is your strength.
*While Santa puts gifts under your tree... JESUS became our gift and died on the tree.

So glad I have just ONE Isaac!

Isaac's thinking... "Oh you are sooooo handsome! Oooo, look at you. You are sooo cute too. AND where did he come from? He looks a lot like the two of you! I love your shoes. What? Your mommy hates your shoes too? So does mine, but that's why I wear them! Wow, you're a good dancer... And you are too... and you too! Watch me spin. I'm not so sure about your hair though. It looks like your mommy cut it!"
FYI: Khols has the biggest and best dressing rooms for mothers of toddlers. Just grab an Elmo CD player from the toy section and your little one will rock out with his "friends" while you try on the whole store!

Firefighter Daddy

Today all the families of the firefighters got together to have a party. Santa was there and he brought presents for all the kids. There was no way Isaac was going to sit on his lap, but he definitely couldn't take his eyes off him. After we visited with Santa we went to visit Shaun (he went to work yesterday afternoon and won't be home 'til Tuesday morning). Shaun is working at the newest station in Chino and boy is it beautiful! We had a grand tour and Isaac acted as if he owned the place. We'll be back for Christmas... Shaun works!
Santa (aka: Grandpa) and Isaac were keeping a close eye on each other

The New Man of the House...

Well, four months ago today my daddy had surgery to repair his achilles tendon. The doctor said that it would be a 4 -6 month recovery and that he couldn't go to work and would have to stay home and play with me. We've done so much these past few months - A trip to Hawaii, two trips to Arizona, a few days spent at the beach and the zoo, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the list goes on and on. My favorite times are our nightly wrestling matches! I have so much fun with my daddy, but I knew our guy time wouldn't last forever. Because my daddy is a hard worker and was determined to get better quickly, today was his first day back to work! He still walks with a limp and isn't 100% but the doctor said that it will take a year for a FULL recovery. I'm sad that daddy is gone but I'm the man of the house now and it's my responsibility to take care of mommy when he's gone! I didn't waste any time... I got to work on my first project...

Isaac the Builder. "Just give me the screw driver mommy, I'll do it!"

"Wow, just my size."

"Ahhh! Enjoying the fruits of my labor!"

Just a look back at a few moments of daddy and me!

Merry Christmas!

Isaac and Santa ~ Five weeks old

Happy Thanksgiving!

Holy cow! Can you tell that our child did NOT want to have his picture taken!?! To some it may look like he's laughing but if you had been there, then you would know that everything in his strong little body was fighting to get away. That's why our hands are all over him... We were hanging on has hard as we could! Isaac was not about to focus or hold still with three big fire trucks to play on (we spent our day at the fire station because Grandpa Higgins had to work). I was hoping for Christmas pictures but we may still try again for a true smile from the little "I've got my own agenda" man!

November, yet feels like September

So, it's late November and while other states are enjoying snow ball fights and hot chocolate by the fire, Southern California is still soaking up the rays! I have mixed feelings about the weather. I'm loving that it's not hot and it's an absolute perfect temperature, BUT it is almost December so I'm ready for winter (I think it's coming SOON).

Yesterday we enjoyed a few hours at the lake on the jet skis. It was Isaac's first time and Shaun said, "he is definitely a natural." Isaac wasn't a fan of the wind in his face so Shaun turned him around and he talked to the waves and ducks behind him.

I'm Thankful for Isaac - which means laughter!

Peek a boo has been the big game in our house this week. Isaac will put anything over his head and then hold perfectly still while letting out little "I'm so sneaky they'll never find me" giggles. When he thinks we've missed him long enough, he yanks whatever is on his head off and lets out a huge "I'm right here" scream! This is the latest item that he walks around with on his head... Some furry cat bed thing that has a tail! Shaun and I were laughing so hard. It was the kind of laughter that comes straight from the belly and then gets lost somewhere because nothing comes out!!! He won't wear hats but he has no problem wearing stuffed animals, blankets, or furry cat beds!
